30-days natural hair challenge – Day 4

Hello everyone!

I am posting the much awaited second update to my 30-days natural hair challenge (more like experiment!). Today is Day 4 and I have found that the initial dryness from Day 1 has resolved and my hair feels more moisturized and fresh.

As you know, the day previous to Day 1, I did my last shampooing and I did not apply any hair products. Shampoos, especially conventional shampoos, are known to be harsh on hair as they strip away not only any accumulated dirt but also the natural oil that we all human beings secrete from our scalp. This natural scalp oil is very important to keep our manes looking fresh and cool, and shampoos temporarily dry the hair as they remove this precious oil which means newly secreted scalp oil has to coat the hair again, a process which takes a few days. Thus, 4 days after shampooing and with my scalp oil being able to coat almost all of my mane again, my hair looks better than Day 1. Some pretty cool stuff which most of you dudes didn’t know about, huh? To learn even more about shampooing and why you should go easy on it on your manly mane, click on my previous shampooing article!

This is how my hair is looking today (I used a hair band to keep my hair back as I was out for the day)

Hair feels pretty good with no knotting or mating. I expect the latter to become an issue after a week or so of not using shampoo. I am finding water alone with plenty of “finger cleaning” to be more than enough. The hair, according to the curly dudette inspecting my curls, smells neutral, so I have the OK from the female side (you should always have a female opinion when it comes to grooming and style, worth its weight in gold!).

That is it for the second update of the 30-days natural hair challenge. I will be updating this experiment with pictures in another 3 days but in the meantime, keep an eye out on Manly Curls as tomorrow I will be answering a very interesting question on the diet I used for my recent body transformation.

Don’t forget to show some support for this experimental curly dude in his quest for hair minimalism with comments, opinions, subscriptions, likes or other cyber forms of support. I want to know what you ladies and gentlemen think because you TOO are the jury!

All the best,

Rogelio
