Nick Zoricic, a popular Canadian Ski Cross skier, died this afternoon in Switzerland when he was racing at the 2012 Ski Cross World Cup. I have always been a fan of skying and was saddened to hear the news today as I had heard from him in the past. What is more, the video has been leaked out to Youtube and is rapidly going viral, so I have decided to post it, since it is not of a shocking nature.
Ski Cross is a style of skying that involves going through bumps on the slope as one skies down and allows for jumps and other acrobatic maneuvers to be performed. It is an extreme sport and is pretty cool to watch. I am a fan of skying and can attest to the inherent dangers of skying, especially once you start going down red or black slopes and Ski Cross skiers have some balls to be doing all those jumps at high speeds.
Nick Zoricic misjudged the final jump as he was about to reach the finish line and hit the nets at high speed as he landed the jump. He was actually preparing to hit the snow but it seems he hit something in the nets that caused him to hit his head so hard to cause his death from brain trauma. The discussions arising currently revolve around the bad design of the course and how it was exposing the skiers to something bad happening, so I am sure we will get to hear more on this sad event over the coming days.
R.I.P Nick Zoricic.
