The Curly Hair Book: Or How Men Can Now Rock Their Waves, Coils and Kinks has become a bestselling book only after 2 days of being out and hits number 4 of sales in the UK for its book category!
I guess one of the things that a newly-established book author does is neurotically check his book’s ranking; I’m guessing that ‘cos that’s what I’m doing! I remember reading, as I was writing my book, of other bestselling authors and how they’d be spending their days on Amazon continuously refreshing the page with their book’s ranking; I just didn’t understand that obsession of knowing how well your book is selling. As of now, I fully understand this feeling, and I feel more like a stock broker checking for the hourly profits or losses than feel like a book author.
The Curly Hair Book: Or How Men Can Now Rock Their Waves, Coils and Kinks not only became a bestselling book on its second day of being out but it also hit number 4 in its book category in the UK after only 7 days of being out! The book is out on all international markets, including the US where it has hovered around position 60; considering the UK gets its own Amazon site and is the second biggest market after the US, I’m quite happy about such achievement.
Fellow book authors, do you know this feel?
My book has been out selling for 8 days as of today the 21st December (isn’t it supposed to be today the day when the world ends or something like that?). And, yesterday, my book hit number 4 in rankings at Amazon UK for the Beauty & Fashion category. This book category is highly competitive as its full of books (that somehow sell lots) on how to have perfect skin, how to be fabulous and divine, how to be chic and elegantly feminine, how to have a more toned feminine body, how to do some stupid diet that is sponsored by some stupid celebrity, and so much more Sex-in-the-City-type stuff. And, if you have read my book, you know that I make quite a few jokes about Sex in the City and the feminine lure of the hair care industry (hey, it’s a book for males, nom’sayin?).
So yeah, was it my surprise yesterday when I checked my rankings (I was joking before, I don’t check them that often) and I see my book in number 4 of sales surrounded by fabulous and chic books.
Oh yeah, we revolutionising the Beauty & Fashion world, fellow curly haired comrades!
You’ve seen that meme with the kid showing his fist in the beach? That was me yesterday all day long.
Of course, the rankings change, and The Curly Hair Book stayed number 4 until later in the evening, only to go down to number 5, and today is in the 20s. But for a book that has only been out for 8 days, that is for men yet is in a category that is driven by female wants and needs, and that is about hair care for wavy, curly, coiled, kinky and afro-textured hair, I think we’re doing some good job, don’t you think? And I say “we” because I wrote this book for YOU so that you, the rest of men with shapely hair and I show our middle finger to the conventional notion of seeing curly hair as bad hair. Thus, fellow cool cat, we are in on a hair revolution that calls for “converting buzz cuts and dead rats into awesome manes”, as I wrote in my book.
