In today’s featured post of Curly Hair Men Talk, we have Bruno from Brazil, a talented contemporary dancer with an epic mane of curls. He saw the light after visiting Manly Curls for the first time and, ever since, his curls went from dead-rate status to epic-mane status!
Curly Hair Straight From Brazil: Bruno Castro
Bruno de Castro
Type III (check Rogelio’s curly hair type guide for more on curl types for men)
My name is Bruno de Castro. I am a Brazilian artist (dancer, singer, actor). I also work as a dance teacher, teaching ballet, jazz dance and contemporary dance classes. I live in Campinas city, a place where you can meet from all over Brazil and even other countries because of the famous university UNICAMP where I graduated with a Dance degree. I have also joined some Brazilians Broadway’s production as “Fame-The Musical”, “In the Heights”, and others.
How do you look after your hair?
I completely changed my hair routine after visiting “Manly Curls”. When I was younger I used to hate my hair texture so I used to kept it really short, and also tried straighten it too. The first and essential tip from Rogelio that I followed was avoiding shampooing my hair too much. Now I use shampoo only once a week or each 10 days. I co-wash just massaging my scalp and applying deep conditioner for curls three times in a week. Never sleep with wet hair, but I also avoid heat for drying, generally I let it dry naturally. Always try to use cold water for washing. I often use my fingers to untangle after using conditioner. Never comb it when its dry, because I like the defined curls shape. I also believe that a healthy diet helps to keep hair and skin in good conditions. I take vitamins daily and drink about 4 liters of water too.
Weirdest hair moment?
I had lots of weird hair moments like orange and blue hair, blond and straight, completely shaved around the head only keeping the top long. I love changing and trying new hair styles. Hair grows! But for now I’m in love with my curls and want them really natural and long.
Favorite hairstyle or haircut?
I like many styles, but now I would say the afro style. A beautiful and huge fro hair has really caught my attention. Also like the dreadlocks. I’ve tried them for some time but I lost lots of hair so I decided to shave the head and give up the dreadlocks… at least for me.
